Oh hey, are you describing me? I’ll admit I’ve mostly lived in tier 1/1.5 cities, so my experience isn’t exactly standard. I’ll also gladly admit that top Chinese companies have worse culture than top American ones in web development. Where are you from?

Nobody is questioning whether China is policing Xinjiang very heavily, but calling it a genocide implies that China is somehow targeting all Uyghurs and not just radical elements. Most people are fine and Uyghurs are still represented in government and at top educational institutions. Comparing it to Nazi Germany is both reductionist and downright inaccurate.
Didn’t literally all the Muslim countries visit Xinjiang and come out of it with the consensus of “yeah, y’know what, China’s doing pretty good all things considered.”
What makes the opinions of white non-Muslim people matter in this context?
The link you sent refers to subsidies from previous years that haven’t actually been paid out yet. The Chinese government did the classic play of “here’s some subsidies jokes haha we’ll totally pay you ten years later if you’re not bankrupt by then haha.”
So… Thanks for helping my point, I guess? For a historical perspective, China’s solar PV subsidies have been almost entirely demand-side with the exception of academic research grants, national labs, and poverty-alleviating policies.
It’s not like subsidizing an emerging industry is that unusual: the problem is usually when people keep subsidizing output from that industry after it’s a mature competitor. German subsidies were at, what, 37c/kWh with 8877MW (8760 hours per year, 25% typical daily efficiency) installed in 2010? Those subsidies are massive, so either Germany is incompetent at solar PV development or neoliberal policies don’t work and the government should have been more active in managing the nascent industry.

The presumption of innocence is an internationally-recognized human right.
I’m not saying to blindly trust the judiciary, but that not trusting the judiciary is an inherent failure in society. We need to fix that, not focus on individual cases that will keep happening if our judicial system is morally and ethically compromised.
There needs to be trust in the justice system. Otherwise, there’s no point in having a justice system. If he’s cleared, then there wasn’t enough evidence and he should be considered innocent. That’s how our justice system works. Don’t break the social contract because of your vendetta against rich people.
The problem is that our society doesn’t encourage people to immediately report crimes nor provide sufficient support for people who have been abused.
And the type of meat changes the math significantly. Beef is notoriously inefficient and produces an insane amount of GHG emissions compared to more efficient meats like chicken, pork, and farmed fish.
