Summary

Transgender Americans are stockpiling hormones and researching DIY solutions amid fears that President-elect Trump may restrict gender-affirming healthcare, as he pledged during his campaign.

Online communities are sharing resources, with some turning to nontraditional sources or synthesizing hormones despite risks like inconsistent dosages and legal consequences.

Advocacy groups are offering legal support for those self-managing care, while healthcare providers emphasize that access remains unchanged for now.

The World Health Organization has called for expanding self-care guidelines to include gender-affirming therapy, reflecting a growing global conversation on healthcare access disparities.

We’ve failed our trans brothers and sisters so miserably.

    I’m so sorry.

Yeah but people who don’t actually care about saving lives in Gaza “sent a message” to the DNC that the DNC was never going to listen to in the first place. So, worth it. /s

As much as I despise those folks, it’s much wider than them. Almost ten million Americans decided they were willing to turn out in 2020 but not in 2024.

It’s a failure on a level far deeper than some terminally online morons who wanted to further multiple genocides so they could feel sufficiently pure.

To be fair to at least some of them, it was made even harder for people, especially poor people, to vote in 2024 than it was in 2020. So much rat fuckery at work.

Unfortunately, we’ll never know how much impact the BlUeMAgA screechers had, words are powerful and they posted them wherever they could get away with. Did they reach all those 10 million people? Probably not, but I also wouldn’t say they had an “insignificant” amount of influence (like they claim now, after the election ofc)

They’re just closeted MAGAts AFAIC now

I agree, we have failed them. Catastrophicly in fact, but I’m sure we disagree on how we have failed them exactly.

Hormones are fucking impossible to stockpile. I’ve been on them for over a decade and have never had more than a month’s supply out. It’s fucking difficult since insurance only approves one month at a time so you have to reduce your intake to build up stock unless you have a really nice endo who’s willing to overprescribe. That’s also assuming you don’t have issues getting constant prescriptions for life. My experience has been that transgenderism in healthcare or government is treated with hesitancy and prejudice, even in a “blue” area like NYC.

I’ve switched to injections now since they’re easier to stockpile, but I fear it won’t be enough. I literally can’t produce estrogen nor testosterone on my own so if I lose access I’m at high risk of osteoporosis.

But you know, maybe cheaper eggs… Maybe… And Gaza is saved

One bottle can last you multiple months, but you get prescribed a new bottle each month. Get your syringes online, it’s a lot cheaper (I use medical-and-lab-supplies dot com)

Erin in the Morning provides great info on stuff like this

Appreciate it. I’ll have to message my prescriber and see if I can get my refills up. Currently, I see her once every three months and only get two bottles.

Already stocked up on syringes etc. I may grab a few extra boxes before the tariffs hit.

My pharmacy said I could buy them without insurance. E would be like $136 for 6 months. Insurance currently gets me 3 months for 30

    • There’s always the grey market for getting raws. Of course most individuals probably don’t have access to the tools and knowledge to verify purity and going from raws to safe and accurately dosed medicine is another problem. But many people were already going that route anyways before this.

Reminder that in some states it is a crime to do this with testosterone, and anything you write anywhere online (but especially the fediverse) should be considered permanent.

Also reminder that the “SINGLE USE ONLY” label on injectable HRT can be ignored*, and used to not even be on there Back In The Day. Just look for crud floating around, warm the bottle in your hands to make sure it’s not just crystallized, and toss it if it doesn’t go away. Don’t mistake bubbles for crud if you shake it.

    * You can check to make sure it has preservative ingredients if you’re super worried about it

And, unfortunately, if you’ve come out online, they’ll be able to find out who you are and find you. Please do something to get yourself to safety. Anything.

We are really, really close to Underground Railroad territory here.

I have the same info. Straight from the nurses mouth, buy new clean needles, you can reuse the bottle lots.

Replacing the needle tip with a new one after loading the syringe also keeps the needle very sharp for the shot.

I’m a cancer patient and getting an emergency stockpile of meds is nigh-impossible.

The thing is, they make all kinds of exceptions for cancer patients because our circumstances are considered dire, so if it’s this difficult for me, it’s astoundingly more difficult for the trans community, who have no such exceptions protecting them.

It’s probably a good idea to get your homes prepped to hide LGBT+ folks, Anne Frank style, just so you’re not caught off guard when the need arises. Keep in mind Nazi SS didn’t have high tech shit like heat vision goggles to sniff out anyone hiding, so do your homework before you start.
