Surely losing the bagage and making the money he needed to setup his family was the priority in that case?

He is, in fact, a terrible person, and the fact you cannot understand that is concerning. Having one singular noble goal does NOT magically absolve him of all of his terrible decisions.

IMO Walt saw that he was losing control over Jesse and he didn’t like that. He did what he did to Jane in order regain that control. I dont think it was an act of altruism.
I think the point was, simply, that there was a clear moral path (albeit a difficult one) and he chose…not that. And someone innocent was harmed as a result.

He didn’t even have a noble goal, that was the excuse. All he did was because he wanted to.

IIRC he passed up a full ride of chemo treatment, and his family getting taken care of by his rich friend all to serve his ego.
