I don’t really see the point in telling (in the sense of notifying) the customer that the battery needs to be replaced. One does recognize that a battery needs to be replaced, as it affects the usage of a device. When you notice that your battery doesn’t hold charge for long, you can assume that the battery needs to be replaced.
The implementation of telling that the battery needs to be replaced will probably be archieved with a(nother) notification message, which can be dismissed but will show up again after a certain time.
I see it as a scheme to steer the customer towards replacing the device altogether, especially when the battery is not designed as a removable part of the device.
It will be similar to a notification in an inkjet printer application that the ink cartridge will need to be replaced, (despite of the ink cartdrige is still half full) that you need to dismiss each time you want to print something.

All batteries are replaceable. Some take a bit more effort and some specialized equipment, though.
You’re right and we should use that. But many people also aren’t capable of doing that. I sat down with 2 friends a few months back and they wanted to replace their iPhone batteries, one also needed to change his display. End of the story was that the previously working display didn’t work anymore :( I thought it would be fine and he did only one time do a little heavy pull which may have been why it stopped working, but there’s always this risk now…
They mean the ones that are glued in, inside of casings that are glued in? Gee, how nice.
I personally think that a battery is removable enough as long as it can be replaced with screwdrivers (maybe a hot air gun) and no additional parts need to be replaced as well.
My phone can be opened from the back with screws, no glued glass that needs to be replaced. The battery is probably glued to the metal frame, but that is OK because only the battery that gets replaced is going to be damaged. Some batteries even have a pull tab that pulls the adhesive out from under the battery.
I can understand why batteries are glued, because screwing them isnt really possible and its better if the battery doesnt flop around inside. I can also understand why they moved away from completely user removable batteries because those really take up quite a lot of space.
But it should be possible for reasonably tech savy people to change a battery in 15min. It shouldnt be that you need hotplates and have to destroy multiple phones before you have enough experience to open them without damage.
