This trope, like how the Addams Family does it, has always really bothered and confused me. No, absolutely not. At least, certainly none of my own, even if I were capable of it… I don’t really see the point in procreating with the world on such a catastrophic trajectory. On the other hand, if I find myself in a situation where I have a home and resources to share, and some unfortunate already-existing kids need those things, I’d certainly offer them a place. That would be just as true for non-kids though, so I dunno how much of a “parent” that’d really make me.

If I’m understanding correctly, this sounds just about exactly how GrapheneOS works by default. All GPlay apps work and have notifications, but are sandboxed.

It fucking blows but, honestly, I just never take off my KN95 mask in public… It seems to mostly keeps me from being misgendered (on top of also just being a good idea, of course). I’m never gonna afford FFS, and because of electrolysis I’m not even allowed to shave for like half of every week, so masks being socially acceptable has been a lifesaver for me in more ways than one. Would that help for you too?

My library has a lendable “Ultimate Screwdriver Kit” that has every bit size and type I’ve ever heard of, security Torx, pentalobe, oval, gamebit, spanner, etc etc. Also a bunch of different styles of bit holder, and a bunch of attachments like angle adapters, depth setters, torque limiters, etc. Only tangentially relevant I guess… but if you run into a problem like this again, check your local library to potentially avoid having to buy obscure bits online!

I have a ~4 year old Pixel 3a, it’s got a case but no screen protector. I drop it all the time, but it’s pretty much totally fine still, at least physically. Definitely running a bit sluggish these days, but otherwise perfect. Maybe I’m just lucky? Or maybe they’ve gotten worse since?
