I hate vehicles.

I concur, vehicles are the worst.

Recently had to get the transmission rebuilt in my vehicle with less than 100k miles on because the torque converter failed and took gears three and five with it.

No power starting from a stop. Takes like 60 seconds to get up to 50km/h. Without getting too exciting here, it has a background of electrical problems. We have a pretty great transmission shop near where I’m located, so hopefully another kick at the can and they can solve it, because it’s out of my league to fix myself at this point.

Are you starting out in second gear? Almost sounds like it’s in limp-home mode, like there is an electrical fault with your transmission and it’s stuck in second gear as a safety. Either that or engine misfire/clogged catalysts, engines have a lot of ways to run poorly, but transmissions generally don’t have a reason to drag the vehicle down and still shift properly. Can you feel it upshift multiple times to 50mph?

You’re a smart cookie. It is in limp home mode, according to the transmission folks, caused by some sort of electrical malfunction.

The truck is a Frankenstein, and a lot of stuff that was mixed and matched caused electrical issues. It has an engine in it that isn’t the original make or model.

I never took it to 50mph, only 50km/h, as I didn’t want to highway drive it. It didn’t feel like it shifted once between 0 and 50km/h.

There’s a lot of “could be’s” with that. Issues I’ve had in the past are transmission input/output sensors and electronic throttle body.

Is it an f150? Sold mine because of the stupid lead frame issue. Damn transmission loses its speed sensor and just stops shifting until you reboot it.

The transmission on my car has been slipping at low speeds now for years. It would be expensive to fix and I just don’t care that much. So what if I can’t accelerate quickly from a stop? The car still gets me around.

      Send it.

And never, ever change that transmission fluid. That grit is the only thing engaging your gears at this point. Run it until it pops, then go get another one. Transmissions are cheaper than a loan.

Father’s got a 2010 tacoma that has 180k on it. I’m hoping to maintain it as long as I can as it’s the only vehicle I feel comfortably doing work on. Modern vehicles are designed by sadists. Hopefully i can keep it running until the frame rusts.

so is the one in my car. I have a new car coming in next week. Funnily enough, when I bought my other car 14 years ago, my current car at the time also died of a transmission issue the week before.

    It’s like they know!

You’re supposed to change the fluid (and filter is applicable) every once in awhile. Some manufacturers say it is lifetime fluid, but it is not.

My jeep went not too long ago, I had it for a while but, the transmission crapped. Looking for a fuel efficient American made car is impossible. I refuse to buy new so I suppose I’ll buy used Japanese.
