I’m really enjoying this version of the Moomins. Cocktaildrinking hattifatteners and sniff spewing insults.

          It varies.

Tove Jansson wrote a variety of stories using the moomins, in a wide range of tones, each reflecting on what was happening in her life when she wrote them.

These comics have a much more adult and angry style compared to the child-friendly grander works.

As someone whose “baseline” was established by the 1990 TV series, the idea of Sniff being acid with his words is hilarious.

The comics also tend towards the more mundane. In the TV series the hattifatteners are a non-speaking fantasy creature that move in swarms, attracted to lightning storms as they feed on energy of lightning strikes. In the comics they just show up and ask for cocktails :D

Moomin trolls are shaped like hippos, but they are covered by soft white fur.

Lots of Janssons charachters are some kind of made-up fantasy creature, all living in a world full of detail.

I recommend looking into the books, these comics are only a tiny part of the franchise Jansson created, which is still huge in many parts of the world. She even turned down Walt Disney trying to buy her out, back in the day.

She passed in 2001, and the brand is still managed by her family.
