Given that with 3.18 bedlogging finally functioning again (albeit a bit restrictive with the only one person can be on a ship during bedlogging), I wanna ask how long have you been able to live onboard your ship?
With that I mean waking up in your ship and then bed logout on the same.
I am starting my journey through the stars on board of my Crusader Mercury Star Runner (BFS-The Long Dream), trying to do everything from it: be it missions, cargo, exploration (mostly sand caves) and mining.
Got any stories to share as well?
I think the longest I did was a pair of weeks or so. That’s how I found out that bedlogging in space without a spacesuit and helmet, causes vacuum damage on login. Can’t wait to see that fixed so I can go to sleep in some weird pajamas I loot somewhere. XD
Oh hey Nixie, glad to see you here as well :)
Yeah those vacuum pockets are really strange, sometimes you suffocate standing, lying or standing somewhere on other times you don’t in the exact same spot.
Federation is the way to go. XD
I think I read that the bedlogging damage was because the “atmosphere” is loaded later than the character, but the equipment (spacesuit) is loaded even later, so for a brief moment you are subjected to “space” (from an old reddit post, deleted my account so can’t look it back)

That doesn’t sound ideal at all. They’ve got to change this priority.

same, was bummed out when mods of r/sc removed my final goodbye post, but oh well it accelerated my deletion of my stuff and account by alot.
I’ve been in my Reclaimer for the past 5 or 6 sessions now doing salvage missions with the goal of filling it up completely, just to see if I can. I started with 36 bottles of Lux, and I’ve gone through about half of them.
Occasionally friends will fly out to me to come hang and do salvage w/ me for a few hours. If my Lux doesn’t last I’m kinda depending on them to fly me in some supplies lol.
So far I’ve got between 180 and 200 crates, and the salvage hold is filled with physicalized guns, missiles, mining heads, etc and making me very nervous every time I have to go in there😅
It’s been a slow process filled with a lot of bed logging out of paranoia. My goal is to avoid getting 30K’d cause I think the physical cargo will transition to the inventory system if 30K protection has to come in to save the day.
So if responsiveness starts to get a bit slow, entities spike, bwIn goes from <1 to >10Mb/s and starts chugging backlogged server info I take no risks and bed log to server hop.
So far it’s been a really fun challenge. I’m sure it’s gonna go sideways somehow at some point and I probably will not be able to cope with the loss 😂
Oh damn, that means you live off the Grid then? Hope you got some good Nutritional Food on board. Can’t Imagine living on Lux alone.
Would be cool if we would be able to consign crates to others so that your friends perhaps can come and take some load off you and sell it at TDDs.
How do you deal with 200 crates already? I thought the cargo grids in the Reclaimer are only one stack high?
The salvage processing deck has a 120 SCU grid and the Cargo Hold has a 180 SCU grid. So 300 is the max capacity.
Idk if I’ll call it quits there or not though. The rooms themselves are huge, I might just start yeeting boxes around until there’s too many to track and my Reclaimer causes servers to 30K on demand cause the physics engine can’t cope lmao
Oh yeah the cargo holds are huge, can’t believe it that CIG only made those cargo grids 1 crate high; heck there would be enough space to stack multiple 32 SCU containers in them as well.
I know that you can stack Crates ontop of other Crates even outside of Grids but I really don’t like the bounciness that happens which also can cause damage to the ship.
The last few patches I’ve been relying on bedlogging instead of logging out at a station.
I’ve found it more reliable to not have to worry about retrieving my ship. Plus I can jump right into the action a lot sooner.
It’s hard to say “how long” because there can be times where I don’t log in all week, but I’d say my ship lasted at least 4-5 gaming sessions (if not more). When we had the big issues with ASOP terminals in 3.17.2 I lived on my ship for several sessions as well because I feared that I would become stuck at a Port.
The longest its ever lasted for me was about 4 days before getting invalid location id, and that was under ideal circumstances in deep space not in a planet or L points object container
Oh on which Ship did you lived off grid?
Seems Dangerous as bed Logging isn’t working reliably and is an easy way to get the infinite loading screen. The good news is that it’s typically the fixable infinite loading screen by taking the ship you bed logged in into Arena Commander.
Strange, the last time I had an infinity loading bug with bedlogging was in a Valkyrie in 3.17.x (can’t remember which patch patch)
But alas good that there is a workaround for this :)
Before I got perma errored on May 19th, I was bed logging regularly, and getting the bugged login about once out of every 4-5 bed logs. Then I log out in Lorville (not bed logging) and I’m perma borked. Haven’t been able to login in since.
Oh damn, sorry to hear that. Hope 3.19.1 will fix that issue for you :/
