Since our daughter is now more and more exploring the world and we like to let our balcony door open in summer we came across the idea of using a children safety door we had already laying around for our balcony. As the door opens to the inside, we could only mount it outside. Problem was the door was too small. 5mins in fusion360 and 5h printing later we now have the perfect solution. Used some rubber parts in between so it’s not gonna slide. Sits now perfectly strong. I am a little bit concerned the PLA will melt in direct sunlight in summer, but we will see…

Keep in mind that most 3d printing materials creep a little, so if you aren’t removing and reinstalling the gate periodically, it may loosen. Make sure it stays snug!

Yes I am tightening it a little from time to time so it won’t get loose. And everytime I am going to leave the balcony open, I wiggle on the door to see if it’s still tight enough. I wonder how long the PLA will last for this purpose.

  • I think it gets rotated because you took it with your phone and it added a “logical rotation” to the image file which Lemmy can’t handle correctly. (I’ve looked it up and it’s called EXIF orientation metadata.)

    See: https://web.archive.org/web/20201204011853/https://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/exif-orientation.html

I’m sure there is an online tool you can use to convert the logical rotation to physical.

Ah okay, interesting. That sounds like we need an update here… In the meantime I just took a screenshot of the photo. Will definitely decrease quality, but it does the job until Lemmy is able to handle orientation itself
