Instead he faced 0 consequences, so he (and the fascists around him) decided they could just keep trying different coup strategies until they found the one that works. Liberals let them iteratively test coup strategies.

void_turtle@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto News@lemmy.world•Say The Words: American Concentration CampEnglish412·7 days agoAmerica already had concentration camps in the form of ICE detention camps and prisons. The trials most faced before being sent to prison do not some how make those prisons not concentration camps. Those also have inhumane living conditions, forced labor, dehumanization, brutal violence, isolation from accountability, psychological torture and murder.
El Salvador is certainly worse, but we didn’t get here overnight. The american people have been conditioned to accept this over decades by sending millions of people to internal slave labor camps with the thin excuse of “but they had due process!!!1!”

They are definitely not blasting gamma rays to bring down drones lol. “radio” is a specific range of frequencies so “high frequency radio” is just frequencies at the higher end of that specific range.
Gamma rays are insanely dangerous. I’m too lazy to do calculations/research to back this up but I suspect that gamma rays intense enough to reliably drop a drone would also give cancer/radiation poisoning to anyone remotely downrange (and also the operators). Furthermore, I don’t think we have a way to produce gamma rays in any high intensity in the lab. matter-antimatter annihilation and fusion bombs are the only way I know of for humans to produce gamma rays. The former can only be done at atomic scale in the lab and the latter is, well, I guess that also destroys drones (and everything else within 100km)

That is literally what happened.
Some worried the administration was veering into authoritarian territory.

A huge amount of the US’s global economic power comes from strong-arming the rest of the world to enforce US patents and copyright, thus funneling trillions of dollars from the rest of the world to the US. Without any patents or copyright there would be improved Chinese Tesla copies on the market within a year.

They ruled the US has to “facilitate” his return, but does not have to “effectuate” his return. The admin will interpret this to mean that as long as El Salvador doesn’t take active steps to send him back, the US doesn’t have to do anything to try to make them.

But what eye protection you’re wearing won’t matter. You’re chained to a tree. The cops can do literally anything they want to you, including ripping your safety glasses off and emptying a can of pepper spray directly in your eyes. See: the infamous case of the Pepper Spray 8
Deputies pepper sprayed Mike McCurdy (above) and Noel Tendick directly in the eyes at close range while they were locked together through the tracks of a Pacific Lumber bulldozer on an old-growth redwood logging site. The activists endured the torture and did not unlock. Deputies then safely cut them loose with a portable grinder, as they could have done without using pepper spray, and as they had done hundreds of times in previous years.

They are probably more worried about wrongful death suits.
void_turtle@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Biodiversity@mander.xyz•Millions of acres of national forest are targeted for logging under an emergency order from the Trump administrationEnglish12·22 days agoDepends on what you mean by “effective.” It might delay them for a few hours or a day. There’s a long history of this kind of thing, although it’s usually more effective to do a treesit rather than a lockdown for trees. You could do a lockdown on equipment like bulldozers/feller bunchers though. The Earth First! Direct Action Manual has a lot of info.
Be prepared to be literally tortured in various ways, including pepperspray placed directly in your eyes, pain compliance holds, or they just cut the chains/lockbox you’re in and if you get cut with it too bad.
Personally I’m not a big fan of get-arrested-on-purpose types of direct action, but it has its uses. I strongly recommend that if you’re going to do something like this you connect with a group that knows how to do it and you have a support crew, including jail/legal support.

This is rational, but the fascist pigs who passed and enforce that law are not.
Your sentence is phrased like they simply had to be there
That’s a very bizarre reading of my comment, which was not phrased in that way whatsoever. The commenter I was responding to seemed to think the cops were posted there routinely for the purposes of enforcing that law. I was correcting the misunderstanding by pointing out they were only there because she sent a letter beforehand. Obviously they didn’t “have” to be there, in the sense that they are individuals with free will who could have woken up that day and decided to stop being fascist pigs. But they didn’t, and expecting them to is going to lead to disappointment every time because if “don’t be a fascist pig” were in the cards for them, they wouldn’t be cops in the first place.

It’s a combination of very stupid/uninformed voters, and hardcore fascist voters who don’t care how bad their own lives get, as long as immigrants and trans people get gassed. A lot of people think the latter group is a minority, but I actually think it’s the other way around. I think most people who voted for Trump are just fascists and the uninformed are maybe 20% max.
