All Europeans 🇪🇺@social.vivaldi.netto Buy European@feddit.uk•The full guide to switching from big US tech to supporting more ethical and EU-based companies! (Redone with OSs added)0·8 days agoBetween Proton & kSuite, both are good, you just need to compare prices and features. :)
Both have beautiful and modern interfaces - you can create a free account on both to test.
Both companies offer very different services from each other included in their suite, e.g., Proton has a VPN and Password Manager, while Infomaniak offer video call, transfer of large files, office online etc.
It also depends on whether you read your emails in a mobile app, browser or email client and the importance you attach to E2E encryption.

Do you need end-to-end encrypted emails and cloud storage?
If not, you may find cheaper alternatives (if cost is a thing for you). :)

If you go to any department store with premium brands or outlet stores, you’ll find that, except for shoes, which are often made in Portugal, Spain or Italy, clothing made in Europe is pretty rare. And when they are made in the EU, there are questions about the human rights conditions too.
When you go to ethical local stores that produce their own textiles, design and production, a simple T-shirt will cost more than €100. That’s just out of the reach of most people, especially families. So, to be able to compete and survive, it seems most European clothing brands are “obliged” to produce in Asia, otherwise they can’t beat their competitors on price.

All Europeans 🇪🇺@social.vivaldi.netto Buy European@feddit.uk•How to turn off Meta AI in WhatsApp? You can’t, but... | Tuta1·25 days ago4 things you can do before uninstalling #WhatsApp completely:
1- Create a folder for messaging apps on your smartphone and install at least two alternatives to WhatsApp (such as Signal, Threema, Delta, Session, etc., depending on your values, country, and where you’re most likely to find your contacts). This way, if you choose Signal and a friend chooses Threema, you’ll both have a better chance of finding more friends on the apps you picked based on your preferences.
2- Update your WhatsApp profile photo and status. Create an image showing the logos of the new apps where people can reach you. Write a short status message explaining that you’re switching to new apps. If the new app doesn’t use your phone number as an ID, include your new ID in your avatar or status so people can easily find you.
3- Post a story on WhatsApp. Let people know you’re switching because WhatsApp is no longer safe. Invite them to try alternative apps and suggest more than one option. Share invitation links and help spread the word.
4- Turn off WhatsApp notifications and enable notifications for your new apps. Try to avoid opening WhatsApp unless it’s urgent. If you reply late on WhatsApp, let people know you’re using a different app and don’t check WhatsApp as often.

Most of the world’s manufacturing is in Asia. Not just electronics, but textiles, clothing, shoes, tools, decorations and thousands of other things.
But if we use the same logic, we shouldn’t say an iPhone is American since it’s made in China.

All Europeans 🇪🇺@social.vivaldi.netto BuyFromEU•New version of the guide for change (I'm not the author)0·1 month agoMaybe we’re wrong but for the moment they’re not interoperable.
But the new European DMA regulation requires platforms to be interoperable. Meta and Apple are obliged now to open up their apps to communicate with smaller rival apps such as Signal. Apps using XMPP may be allowed to communicate with other apps in the future, although this seems to pose some security risks.
Some information about the requirement for interoperability between messengers:

You can start by creating a new email address with another provider.
Then, go to your Gmail settings and set it to redirect all new email that comes into your Gmail mailbox to your new email address.
Gradually, you sign in to your favorite sites and replace your Gmail address with the new one. If you’re subscribed to a lot of things, it can be overwhelming to do this all at once. So do it for your most important accounts first, and change the others as you go. :)
