What would it look like if literally everybody bought the latest scam?English41·3 days agoWe’re living in an age of demagoguery, I don’t know why you wouldn’t use that metaphor instead of the relatively harmless advertising, it’s much more important and you can look around and see what it’s like.
Yeah I thought this would be a Radiohead reference, no surprises.

Elements of the Bluesky application on top of the protocol are decentralized, others aren’t. It is actually very easy to understand this.

And people posting pictures of AI getting things wrong is a very common meme. Not people asking random weird questions.
fakeplastic@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Is Marlon Brando in Heat?English36·5 days agoWhy would you think that’s a normal question? We don’t refer to people being in “in heat”. And he’s dead anyway. Even if you didn’t know Heat was a movie wouldn’t you figure out from context it’s more likely asking about a movie or show?
fakeplastic@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Games@sh.itjust.works•"Destroy everything you have" on Fallout's development, Interplay told creatorEnglish12·5 days agoOne time I had to do a dance with a former employer when they wanted me to do some contract work and they couldn’t get me the right credentials but I still had them and needed to make sure they were cool with my not having purged everything. Everyone has to sign the exit paperwork saying they’ll delete everything, the employer doesn’t actually care, they’re just covering themself in the rare case you fuck them over with it.
Lemmy has flaws, but Reddit is a fucking cesspool.
There’s not going to be a replacement for what Reddit used to be. The world is shittier now, that’s just gone. The right way to think of it is that the replacement for Reddit is a combination of Lemmy (or another preferred option) and being less online, being less attached to any one site.

fakeplastic@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Name a group, band, artist, or track you're really into right nowEnglish11·8 days agoI’m just saying, in life there are contexts where your disagreement is meant to be part of the discussion, like a best song thread, and then there’s other contexts where criticizing what someone likes, even in a non mean spirited way, subtly depresses the fun of the situation.
When I was younger I didn’t get that, my friends would talk about things they liked and I’d instinctively disagree. And at a certain age I realized I’d be better company if I didn’t interrupt their enthusiasm. Because the world sucks and enthusiasm is hard to cultivate.

fakeplastic@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Netflix's 3 Body Problem Seasons 2 and 3 Get Exciting Filming UpdateEnglish21·9 days agoOnly 11 episodes total for 2 “seasons”? They picked the right showrunners for rushing through the end of a series. It was never going to end well when it was Netflix that got the rights.

I can live with not turning my life upside down and leaving my family behind. I couldn’t live with still supporting Reddit and Twitter because I can get more clout there than on Lemmy.
Likewise, not ever being in public is simply impossible so it’s another worthless comparison.
You posted a lot of words, yes, but it was a Twitter-quality take.
