@kryptonianCodeMonkey @TheBat Very difficult for a cult member to deprogram themselves

Flic@mstdn.socialto UK Politics@feddit.uk•Reeves rejects calls for ‘buy British’ campaign in response to US tariffs4·22 days ago@CrowyTech yep. Not sure about the Greens, too - they’re pushing for Customs Union and opposing divide and rule at least. But not much voice in parliament.
Flic@mstdn.socialto UK Politics@feddit.uk•Reeves rejects calls for ‘buy British’ campaign in response to US tariffs3·22 days ago@CrowyTech my MP is LD so she’ll probably say “yes, I agree they should, aren’t they awful” and that’ll be it. But I might give it a go.

Pretty much accepted fact now that if the recounts had actually been allowed then Gore would have won. US elections are awful. https://youtu.be/jucDFrO89Ko
Flic@mstdn.socialto politics @lemmy.world•The American Age Is Over - by Jonathan V. Last3·24 days ago@FilthyHookerSpit @Freshparsnip the thing I find weird is that not a single county flipped red to blue, but 88 flipped blue to red. Just demographic changes would usually mean one almost-blue changes hands. All one way hasn’t happened since Hoover, so you’d think, from that, that Trump had a MASSIVE margin.

Flic@mstdn.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s Trade War Risks Forfeiting America’s Economic Primacy4·27 days ago@Maiq @silence7 I still don’t get it. You’d think that even a Russian asset, as a malignant narcissistic demagogue, on becoming president of the largest economy in the world with the most powerful army, would just go ‘actually f*** you, I’m a bigger deal than you now, and your army and economy have both been ripped to shreds since I last got booted out anyway.’ Like, why’s he reducing the power/influence of the US and therefore his *own* power?!

Flic@mstdn.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Mike Johnson's latest tantrum shows how the "pro-family" MAGA just wants women back in the kitchen3·27 days ago@TwinTitans @MicroWave I mean I get your point. But how long do you expect a car to last in the US? We have one car and it’s a 2012 reg that we bought secondhand in 2018…

Flic@mstdn.socialto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•‘Sorry mate, I didn’t see you’: when drivers look but don’t see cyclists on the road1·27 days ago@drkt_ @futatorius gotcha. In your example “designing away stupid” sounds like it might be… well… eugenics. Very much happy to agree that that doesn’t work.
Flic@mstdn.socialto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•‘Sorry mate, I didn’t see you’: when drivers look but don’t see cyclists on the road1·27 days ago@futatorius @drkt_ basically every (successful) safety feature in anything is an example of designing away stupid (plenty of examples where it designs *in* stupid too, though). And just as important, designing away tired/distracted. Everyone makes mistakes, even when they’re not idiots. It’s this isn’t it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy/_of/_hazard/_controls
@Skua @Blaze @tiramichu @GreatAlbatross Honestly couldn’t tell you. But the UK company can’t spell Oregon so they can’t work that closely together… https://kettlechips.co.uk/pages/about
@Skua @Blaze @tiramichu @GreatAlbatross If you really want to do a deep dive, it looks like you can tell from the packaging. If it says ‘Kettle Brand’ it’s American. If it says ‘Hand cooked potato chips: Kettle’ it’s British. If it says ‘Kettle: hand cooked potato chips’ it’s Dutch.
@callyral @grue don’t forget disabled people. Cars are always touted as the solution for disability but there are *many* disabilities which completely remove driving as a possibility (blindness, epilepsy, many learning disabilities, many physical disabilities … And generally being elderly, if we’re honest) and car dependence leaves you entirely reliant on a chauffeur of some kind for any and every time you want to leave the house.
