I drew a floppy disk as part of a workplace online Pictionary game, only to find somebody I work with has never seen one.

We work in IT.

The rest of us tried to explain what they were and he was like “did you use them in a GameCube?” and “was it like a USB stick?”

It was strange being there at the dawn of time, to see Google utterly displace Yahoo.

We were on conenctions barely faster than dial up and Yahoo’s homepage was a complete clusterfuck of everything you didn’t care about. Weather for somewhere else, celebrity “news”, sports in another country. And all you wanted to do was look up a way to run some very dangerous unchecked SQL in PHP.

Google was just search. Nothing else. And it was so fast. You could have that potential SQL injection so much faster there.

And the sad thing is with phones and browsers defaulting to it, and even the word “googling” (I don’t remember ever Yahooing anything), it’s probably here to stay with it’s terrible addiction to ads and AI. Won’t be long before I’m served glue at a pizzeria.

If it was multiplayer only, there’d be no point in making it. All the stuff would already be going into GTA Online.

Red Dead Redemption 2 single player was amazing (and to date the only game that I would apply Ubisoft’s laughable AAAA label to), despite them knowing that online would be an absolute milking machine.

I still have some faith in Rockstar. I don’t expect any single player DLC for GTA 6, but I do expect the single player to be pretty damn good. They know what they’re doing with this kind of content.

There is so much fucking nothing on Netflix.

There was something called Car Crash: Who’s Lying on the list the other day, and from the description and image, it genuinely looks like a police training video that accidentally made it’s way onto a mainstream streaming service.

Their documentaries are all utter dogshit as well, designed for people with an IQ of 80.

The only things still going for it are Mike Flanagan’s stuff, 15 seasons of Taskmaster and the odd horror movie that I otherwise wouldn’t have heard of. As good as Jellyfin is, it doesn’t really have much in the way of recommendations.

I tend to agree. The right time to build nuclear was like 30 years ago.

The same people who opposed it then are the same people saying it’s the future now. If anybody agrees to build it, the you’ll have 15-20 years of renewable energy being cancelled because the “nuclear is on the way”.
