Please note this is just a beta and there are going to be bugs, but it works and it works nicely. Have fun.

Hey everyone. Happy to finally get this out, it’s been one busy month.

I’m looking to add a lifetime option for ultra & option to just remove ads. Keep in mind this is the first release, lots more to follow.

    Cheers!

    Lj

      What ads are being removed?

Edit; oh God theres ads on the app?? I thought you were talking about ads somewhere on lemmy.

Edit again. Yes I now know there ads on the app. I thought the first edit made that clear. You can stop replying telling me there’s ads on the app. I know this. Stop acting like reddit.

Cool! Gonna buy Ultra for a year and then switch to the ad-free version. That’s all I can and want to afford. Thanks for your great work!

My excitement is tempered by two things, the ultra cost being a subscription (I get the “why” I just hate more subscriptions) and also the pretty crappy targeted adverts “consent” whereby you have to scroll through page after page of third party vendors to turn off the “legitimate” interest which is, let’s be honest their way around consent by just ignoring what you want. That’s put me right off in all honesty sorry.

It’s a service, why should you pay once? It’s like water and electricity, ongoing cost needs to be balanced by ongoing revenue. Especially when the utility is also ongoing.

If you prefer paying once, get some dividend ETFs and use the dividends to pay for the service. Yes, it’s expensive, but you can also sell the etf again when you stop using the service.

    contains adds

    contains in-app purchases

    collects data

shares data with 3d party orgs

Nothing against sync, but this is not what I’d expect from lemmy app tbh. There’s a lot of free open source options that don’t sell your data.

Asking to be paid for your job is OK, but injecting ads in ad-free opensource service, selling user data? This is just reddit-app-moment in my opinion

Tell me you’ve never paid for a service, without telling me you’ve never paid for a service

Sync does not sell user data. It uses only the basic prerequisites for an ad service Settings shortcut: Privacy > Privacy policy

If an independent developer, who has worked on an app for 10 years, and has had their work ruined by a greedy company, turns around and makes an app for an entirely new community, within a month of losing his main source of revenue, and it’s as polished, smooth, and user-friendly as can be, doesn’t deserve to put food on the table, then quite simply, you’re incredibly misinformed.

Hi, I have one question - on removing ads, are the ads trackers removed? Or will the app just not show us ads but still allow the trackers in, letting the ad tracker owners keep tabs on our browsing and serve us ads in places other than Sync for Lemmy?

So far it’s a really nice app and experience (I did hear of sync before but never used it).

Payment will probably be impossible for me since my device(s) are all fully de-googled.

It’s brand new and few weird votes can scew the whole. It’s only going to improve :)

Is there any way to get ad free without a subscription? I was happy to buy a paid version of the app before, but an ongoing subscription isn’t really what I want.

Edit: it is not advertised as much as Ultra, but there is a one off payment option to remove ads, in the sidebar. Which I purchased!

I think I’m gonna a hold out a little and see how the beta unfolds. I had purchased the no-ads IAP in Sync for Reddit and it kinda always was worse/more fiddely than the (I think equally expensive) Pro version. Purchase didn’t always restore after updates, sometimes something changed on the API and the no-ads purchase didn’t work for days… Stuff like that, and when LJ came out with Ultra and offered a free year for Patreon backers, it was also only for users of the Pro version…

So please do excuse me for being a bit wary over a no-ads IAP, especially for 15 bucks. This time I would skip that and immediately go for a pro version, should there be one.

    Great news.

However, I’ve become partial to having separate accounts across various instances. Sync enforces having separate settings for each account. I can see this becoming pretty annoying. Does anyone else feel this way?

Strange how it’s ever only an argument if people are trashing something you like…

And sorry but I must have missed something about sync to understand the hype about it. First sing I saw in google play was the tag for in-app purchases. I’m okay paying for an app but I would prefer doing so beforehand without guessing what I might be paying after installation. Then the first thing I saw in sync was sponsored content. Absolutely not cool.

Connect for Lemmy has basically the same layout as well as the thunder client just without sponsored content. I would totally understand if those client where garbage or had missing features but that’s not the case… So what am I missing?
