Hi everyone. I didn’t see any other Digital Nomad communities so I figured we could open one here.
Are any of our federated friends here? I guess we’ll probably find more people to talk to if we stick to English.
That said: where are you guys right now? what are your plans for this year? I’m heading to France/Spain/Portugal for a surf trip with my van starting September.
Thank you for founding this community. I appreciate it a lot. I used to work in several shitty (mostly it-)jobs in the past and am currently thinking about becoming a digital nomad in the future. What interests me about the topic are questions like “Do you work on your own or at a company?”, “How do you finance something like health care?” (was quite expensive when I looked it up) and “How do you deal with traveling around a lot and keeping up with people you care about?”.
So in my case:
I am employed. My current job had a remote working agreement allowing me up to 6 months abroad. In my new contract I negotiated a fully remote position, except for urgent appointments. We said we‘d plan those appointments in the summer months, which is the perfect time for me to catch up with my friends in family back home.
I am also a freelancer.
So in the EU I am covered with my normal health insurance provider from my full time employment. I also have an insurance for travels up to 60 days. But I will probably get an additional one for longer trips too.
As for keeping up with friends and family: I‘ll be at home in the summer months, I also told a lot of friends to visit me, we‘ll see if anyone will join. But you‘ll also meet a lot of great people on your travels.
