While at a karaoke night, I got dragged onstage to duet the bilingual version of “Stand By Me” by Prince Royce. We traded off, with me handling the English portions, but still tried to muddle my way through as much of the Spanish as I could. Not an easy feat. Good thing I was a few drinks in by that point.

Spanish just comes way more naturally to me when I’m drinking. Not because it’s my native language reasserting itself but because I took several semesters of it in college, and I was always still drunk from the night before.
