The cheap points of politics means we have little sensible debate about fixing our migration system so that it works better for everyone, and for the economy. A looming election only appears likely to make sensible debate even more unattainable.
At the moment, the majority of us agree that immigration is necessary - particularly of skilled workers. We also agree that we need people in some trades desperately. But, it’s a leap to accept unskilled people into tafe courses and apprenticeship programs.
Especially without investing in TAFE properly.
