Well, someone has to make a start.

The Indri Trini is my first Indian after a long time. The Amrut Intermediate was one of the worst surprises of my whisky life, so I’m usually rather sceptical about the country. I’m pleased that Indri gives no reason for this scepticism.

  • Nose: The PX cask is surprisingly dominant, with the typical slightly musty cocoa note immediately coming to the nose. Behind it I find something sour, perhaps gooseberry or pineapple? Then pears, juicy oranges and something mineral, followed by stewed fruit. 83/100.
  • Taste: Slightly alcoholic with lots of wood, plus strong vanilla pod and caramel, Indian spices with rice (yes) resonate in the background, plus rum pot with dark fruits and a splash of cream. 87/100.
  • Finish: The slightly dry finish is somewhat tart on the palate (like a good pilsner), but immediately brings back the stewed fruit. I like it. 89/100.
