I always bring instant mashed taters backpacking with me. They weigh very little, have a ton of calories and salt, and you can rehydrate them with water collected on the trail. The water doesn’t even need to be hot if you’re in a hurry or if your stove is broken.

Right? Soluble starch, largely amylose I think in the case of instant mash/waxy potatoes… it’s a very crafty macro hack.
