This post is for you if you consider to buy a PineTime.

The incredible low price of ~25 $ in the US makes buying new a viable choice. If you’d buy the watch based in the EU, VAT and shipping will be added onto the price, and the costs explode. The EU shop offers the watch for ~60 €, including VAT and shipping costs, and a way shorter shipping time.

60 € is a lot of money, compared to the 25 $ as the original price.

My solution: Look on the second-hand market. There are new or barely used watches available, ranging from 20 to 30 €. The PineTime is something you don’t necessarily need to buy new, as it is still in development and you should try it out first. Maybe you need to look a bit longer on the second-hand market, but as the PineTime is still kind-of in development, this isn’t a bad thing. Every update makes it better!

I wouldn’t necessarily say that VAT and shipping lets the costs explode. On top of the 26,99€ I only paid 11.99€ for shipping and none for the tax. Of course thats still ~50% of the watch but 38,98€ is still a lot less than 60€.

Of course you have to be patient cause the shipment takes several weeks.
