We need to stop measuring phone compactness by screen size, and do it by… the actual phone size.

‘6.1 inches’ makes you think “jesus, this phone must be massive, my old phone was like 4.8 inches!”, but it completely ignores how much bezels have shrunk over the years.

E.g. the Galaxy S24 has a 6.2" screen, surely that phone is massive, right? Well it turns out it has a total frontal area only 0.8% larger than the Galaxy S5 that came out 10 years ago, despite the screen size being over an inch larger.

“6.1 inch” means practically nothing on its own.

It is indeed a bit more compact due to its width, but it is pretty long too. But it should at least be comfortable to use with one hand, assuming the app controls are towards the bottom.

I still use my Pixel 4a and to me pretty much all phones nowadays are brick sized. It was pretty much the one of two compact sizes available at the time I bought it. It’s like 144 mm x 69 mm and if I look for phones that size now that got released in the last couple years I only find old school style phones like the Nokia 105, and it is almost exclusively Chinese companies now too. I can only hope that it does not break anytime soon.

It’s compact if you compare to most other android smartphones which have 6.7-6.8 inches of display size.

I use my headphone jack daily. It’s nice to see there are still (albeit very few) manufacturers providing this

The smartphone is set to receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates.

This was according to the article. Sony has moved past 2 years of updates.

I guess sustainability is something Sony has started to care about. Seeing the zero plastic and recycled materials being used now.

Woah that 77% rating seems kind of trash? I’ll definitely look more into other models for reference.
