It’s silly. Dance is an artform, not a sport. That’s my belief as a fan of the arts but not of dance in particular. From the article, it seems like that’s the opinion of most dancers. The IOC is really damaging its own reputation by including it, and to learn that they didn’t even properly consult the practitioners before doing so just adds insult to injury.

Much like the Logan Paul vs Coffeezilla defamation lawsuit, it’s hard to damage a reputation that is terrible to begin with. It does not surprise me at all that the IOC went about this so poorly.
The numerous dance competitions in every form of dance would disagree with that statement. It sure is art but it‘s also a sport.

Personally I just don’t really like events being subjectively judged, which is what I have against it. But I couldn’t say why one is ok but not another.
Yeah I agree actually. Sports like figure skating and gymnastics have such a strong heritage you could never get rid of them, but I don’t like sports that are judged that way. The 10-point-must system from boxing is right on the line, but sports like diving and gymnastics are way too subjective.
The weirdest one I think is the ski jumping. You’d think it would be entirely objective based, like long jump. But bizarrely, no. That forms part of it, but they also get style points. Why, I have never understood.
