Meta has announced that the immediate availability of end-to-end encryption for all chats and calls made through the Messenger app, as well as the Facebook social media platform.

CLAIMING they implement it originally and without backdoors, pinky promise, is worthless without access to all relevant parts of the code, so basically everything, before every update. Nothing stops them from implementing a little tiny feature ripping your key from your device in the future, if they want to.
