Today my new Sylphyo arrived and I’m very impressed by the easyness of playing and the sound quality. Only 34 sounds, but almost all very usable. Breath control is very easy adjustable with a few clicks, no editor needed (in fact there is none), everything is so simple after a quick look in the manual. As a modest hobby recorder player I have no problems to play up and down the whole octave range, just a little bit of training still will be needed. I will be busy to explore the details of the articulation possibilities, but even out of the box this instrument makes a lot of fun. What a huge improvement over the EWI5000. At the moment I feel no need at all to look for other sound sources etc. My recorders also don’t change their sounds exept by the way I play them and the Sylphyo has about 25 beautiful instruments in one package, which I still can tweak for responsiveness, octave range and much more. Btw, adjusting the airflow can be done easily by partially covering the air hole at the bottom with a small piece of adhesive tape. I covered about 2/3, airflow is easy enough to play without effort and the resistance is high enough for circular breathing.

Cleaning/drying the inside is very easy with a recorder wiper, preferably those with a slit for a little piece of non-linting fabric.

So far, so good. The downside is the poor build quality. It really looks and feels like a cheap toy, which it is’nt at all. The top shell bulges, possibly due to improper assembly. Maybe tearing the housing down (seems to be easy) and remounting it could help, but that of course destroys the warrenty. The sliding surface for the right thumb shows significant signs of use after just an hour, which can no longer be removed. The housing makes a very cheap impression that doesn’t fit the price of almost €700.

Despite the defects, which do not limit its use, I will probably keep the instrument because it sounds great, is easy to handle and is a lot of fun. Especially after the frustrating experience with the EWI5000. Returning it and getting shipped another one would be an unnecessary waste of resources and I would have to wait for the processing/shipping back and forth. I can’t wait! Boys just wanna have fun. Girls to of course. Maybe I can impress one with Daphnes Flute?

Or maybe I can get a discount? No, I haven’t even thought that! I become a star when I’m 64. Sh…, I’m already 66. Money for nothing …
