I honestly don’t know why more instances haven’t just defederated from that shithole. Everyone left Hexbear and Lemmygrad for the exact same shit .ml is pulling. And if the reason is that they’re too big to defederate from, then I think you need to reexamine what lemmy means to you to begin with. Because that kind of flies in the face of the purpose of a fediverse- at least as I understand it.
Admins, get on with it. The only people that want to remain federated with that den of gremlins are the people that have alt characters there.
Its a few different reasons I’ve seen.

.world admins have stated they are now hesitant to defederate from instances now that user-side instance blocking was rolled out (Even though it’s nothing but a “mute”, it does not function properly and likely done so on purpose)

Indeed, another reason cited is “they have some of the biggest comms!” Which is technically true by SUBSCRIBER count, which means that 40k subscriber count on .ml memes or whatever is almost assuredly all DEAD accounts.
By the much better metric of MAUs, .ml memes doesn’t even crack the top 10, whereas !memes@lemmy.world is in the top 5 despite having not even half the subscriber count

So that’s why I post so much here, hopefully with overwhelming documentation it’ll be easier to convince admins, especially .world, to defederate once and for all
I’d love it if those troll were absent entirely from my feed. And it’s not because they say shit that I disagree with, I’d be fine to disagree with anyone, and have no problem with people that will disagree with me-
It’s the blatant hypocrisy they display when they whine and cry about bias and censorship while having that .ml after their username. It’s obnoxious. At this point, it’s impossible to accept that it’s not purposeful.

They have to do like many sites do when external linking: Have a BIG header forewarning all this bs, logged, & archived.
Twitter used to do the same w/community notes. There’s no reason why our community can’t be headered with the catalog of evidence we made here.

Make sure you follow davel’s links where he is absolutely sure that no one Russian is doing propaganda anywhere else on the internet or had anything to do with getting Trump elected. He can tell you all about it.
Also, it has nothing to do with anything, but randomly looking at this community reminded me: There is actually a fair question in one sense about whether what China is doing to the Uyghurs can be considered genocide. The reason? Well, they are sterilizing people, forcing abortions, separating children from their parents, destroying religious sites, forcibly “re-educating” people into an different culture than their native one, and otherwise fulfilling a lot of the components of genocide. But, they also do the exact same things to people of every ethnicity under their control including Han Chinese. So a person wouldn’t be totally off their rocker to say “Sure, for any other country in the world that would be explicit genocide meeting several key criteria, but in China’s case it has literally nothing to do with the ethnicity, they just like human rights violations! And they’re applying them impartially.”
I have not had the chance to raise this with one of the pro-China tankies, but if it ever comes up I will report the results.

I can’t decide what’s more entertaining: the admins on ml or cm0002’s crazy obsession with them.
Lol I’m not like constantly refreshing the modlog, just a python script that fires a notification to my phone when a couple conditions are met.
Takes me like <5 minutes to evaluate and put together a post, hardly an obsession IMO, though it has become a bit of a mini-hobby LMAO
