Been traveling so it’s been mostly online plays but I enjoyed my first plays of Faraway on BGA. It’s a drafting game, reminds me of a small streamlined version of It’s a Wonderful World (without the cubes). I will probably get a copy once it’s available.

I also learned Carpe Diem on Yucata and looking forward to trying it on the table too. This one is a Feld, some hints of CoB but with more stressful placement and scoring conditions.

I played two New games this month:

Arkham Noir (Case 3): it’s a solo-card game based off the works of H.P. Lovecraft. I was quite hyped for the game, but I didnt do any research beforehand. Came out quite disappointing: The artwork is great, but other than that it feels like solitaire with overly complicated extra steps to make it hard enough.

The other one was stworze: You and up to 4 other players step into the roles ofslavigc folklore creatures (stworze) fighting to be the “protector” of the locals. The design is great and the mechanics are also somewhat unique, since she players share a common action pool and there’s also some social deduction to be made and everyone has their own way of winning. Can only reccomend it if you manage to get your hands on one (unfortunately out of print currently)

Not technically this month, but on the last day of November: “Brass: Lancashire”. What a Ride, great game, really recommend it, but it’s heavy, hard and also unforgiving - there’s no real catch-up mechanism in there (or we didn’t see it).

Then I won a few board games in a raffle. They’re mostly games for kids, but I did play two of them with my kids. One is a variation of mastermind, but for kids, the other is a variation of Make’n Break.

I got Kiri-ai The Duel and The Quacks of Quedlinburg (with all Add ons) as a Christmas present, but haven’t gotten around to play them yet.

Dorfromantik - the boardgame

It’s a cooperative puzzle game with a campaign mode that unlocks new pieces as you play more rounds. It also won the German “boardgame of the year” 2023 award
