From what I gathered, a lot of mods were simply kicked out by the admins. Some others left voluntarily. Then some stayed and complied with reddit, since they didn’t want to leave their community behind, as it’s a passionate hobby for them or they see some kind of importance in their subs and also feel responisble, e.g., subs about some (rare) diseases.
