Hi. I have been wondering how to get an assessment for neurodivergence as I seem to struggle with some day-to-day things. I seem to relate to a lot of memes from the adhd and autism communities. I also seem to have a good amount of traits that overlap with autism and adhd.

How did you get your diagnosis? Do you have any advice regarding obtaining an assessment?

I was in the same boat two weeks ago and I looked at youtube videos explaining it. Now I’m sure I have it and I have an appointment for a diagnosis in 3 weeks.

I can highly recommend ADHD Jesse to find out what ADHD is and what it isn’t and to learn how different people deal with it as well as anything from HealthygamerGG to understand how it (and a lot of other mental stuff) works.

I have a history of therapists because of social issues etc. already. Started seeing another one during/after Covid due to general lack of any motivation and trouble in school. Also got told the suspicion of ADD and depression. We never followed it though, as we just got served huge stacks of papers with no real explanation and told “sign please”.
A few months later I crashed (mentally), and in the psychiatry my therapist had all the time he needed to thoroughly explain everything to me and my father. Started taking meds (Medikinet/Methylphenidate) half a week later, hit like waking up after a very long (and bad) dream. Took it more until I got released, where my pediatrician took over to prescribe it for a month until I got a place at the old therapist again, where we also changed dosage and when to take it (5 mg in the morning before doing anything else - don’t wanna drive without it, 30 mg after breakfast - wanna be functional in school, 10 mg after lunch - school is until 5 pm and I have to drive after that). Now I have to search for a new therapist as I’m 18 now.

Would I recommend doing the psychiatric route? Ofc not.
