If that is the Spock I think it is, I prefer to think that was just some sort of speculative fiction after Spock disappeared and we never heard from him again.
Jake Sisko heard about Spock going missing and wrote three not especially good books, although the third installment was okay. You pretty much had to get through the first two to get through the third though.
Sci-fi just doesn’t sell as well when people live in outer space and there’s already aliens and time travel.
