Over the last month or so, I’ve tried a bunch except for Gimp (which the last time I checked had about 3.4 trillion things I don’t need) for meming
That is a good point. As much as I like to use GIMP to make memes and encourage others to do so as well, if that is the only task you need it for, it is just overkill (and more importantly, confusing). It is a great software for me to make memes with because I am so familiar with it, including knowing which tools are useful for making memes (and more importantly, which are unnecessary for the task). But if you just want to stitch two images together and add some text, all the buttons and menus could sure be overwhelming.
Yeah, the last time I tried out Gimp, the menus had so many options, they didn’t even fit on my screen and I had to scroll up and down just to see them all.
I’ve heard of a Gimp mod called Photogimp that makes the UI more like Photoshop. I wonder if it would be possible for someone to make a “Basicgimp” mod, where, by default, the UI only contains the basics needed for meming, and the rest could be turned on/off ticking a box for “Full UI”.
