openDesk is pretty promising. It’s an open source alternative to hyperscalers like Microsoft, Google and Co.
@zombiewarrior @kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social For Nextcloud there exist the managed public instances endorsed but not owned by Nextcloud GmbH (this page is like joinmastodon.org): https://nextcloud.com/sign-up/

Nextcloud enterprise
It has gotten pretty mature as of late and with the new version it is now federated.
@zombiewarrior @kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social Nextcloud / Owncloud / Seafile?
@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social I love KDE Plasma and personally it often feels better than Windows user-experience-wise, contrary to what one might expect due to its nonprofit, community-led status. Not to mention the customisability/freedom/privacy benefits…
However, I do need to point out here that Windows Recall is (currently) opt-in only so this story would be inaccurate unless the ex installed it on the speaker’s computer.

a) It is a story.
b) It portrays what Microsoft originally intended: to ship Recall switched on by default and the option to switch it off hidden deep in the settings. They only backed down when it blew up in their faces.
c) If you believe they will not try again, I have a nice bridge on sale you may be interested in.
@Bro666 @kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social Of course - thanks for the quick response. For better or for worse, I always take everything literally and physically can’t seem to do otherwise!
Long live FOSS and welcoming, creative FOSS-dev communities!
@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social Additionally, to all: if you have the means, please contribute to FOSS software you use, financially, or through bugfixing, promotion, or/and development! I do this whenever possible and it’s the only way these amazing programs have been produced, and how KDE has existed since 1996!
