It’s to calm the pilot so they don’t panic before being vaporized out of the sky by AIM-120’s from BVR 100 miles out

Hexavalent chromium primer. It’s probably just their default color.
Maybe less glare from reflection of sunlight?
I read at one point it was thought the color would help keep pilots as alert as possible.
