Ah, interesting, it seems that border regions in particular seem to identify more with the region than the country, right? I noticed because the German border region I grew up in is orange, which doesn’t surprise me in the least. Saarland historically went back and forth between France and Germany and was even kind of independent for a little while so the people there feel more “Saarländisch” than German. Same story for Alsace and similar for other border regions, I’d presume. Bavaria is an outlier.
