    Is this the beginning of the end, if the advertisers stop spending money then what’s the incentive for tech bros? Are we heading back to y2k internet where people made things just because.

      But yeah, online ads are in a death spiral.

      There’s more and more online ad space, which decreases the price per view a lot, so now you don’t get one ad before a video but instead 10. More and more people are adblocking because of crap like that, so the number of actual humans watching online ads decreases. Big businesses are pulling back from online ads, because they just get lost in the sea of crap, leaving behind scammers, malware peddlers and free2spendtonsofmoney games as the biggest sources of ad money, which in turn leads even government agencies to recommend adblockers.

      And you can see the effects already: Almost anyone who is big enough to do so tries to put their content behind paywalls. The whole mess is not just about to collapse, it is actively collapsing.
