Costco workers in Norfolk have unionised and Costco are seething.
This doesn’t read like seething to me.
Like, it’s great that people are unionizing, because even if there’s the best possible relationship between businesses and labor, the union still makes that relationship more equitable.
But that doesn’t mean that the creation of the union has to be viewed as hostility between labor and business.I’ll be interested to see if their good reputation holds up to pressure, but as of right now I haven’t heard anything that makes me want disbelieve their statement.
It’s damage control. They could rage against the union, but that would just make it more obvious to workers that the union is on their side and the company is not.
So now that they have no other choice, they’ll cooperate as needed, but it’s obvious from their statements that they don’t want unions.
