Wohl wegen der Datenschutzregeln will Meta Threads nicht in der EU verfügbar machen. Unklar ist, ob die angekündigte Anbindung an Mastodon trotzdem klappt.

    Yup. The only way to avoid this to not let Threads become the largest instance. Basically as long as they cannot do a 51% attack, changing the protocol would only hurt them, not others.

      You know the fediverse is not a cryptocurrency right? There is no 51% attack here. Or do you mean something else?

        I guess it’s a metaphor. As long as FB doesn’t control the majority of users, they have to comply with standards.

          But that’s the key issue here. Meta comes with a huge user base that they can nudge onto the new service. By integrating xmpp into Gmail, Google created (one of) the biggest xmpp services in an instant.
